At Jenkin Hill Internet we develop client sites based on the Joomla! content management system, using the VirtueMart component for eCommerce function when required
Support for existing Joomla sites (ie not developed by us) can be given on a commercial basis, and is priced as follows, subject to our having time available.
1. An initial check of your installation and basic configuration. This requires superadmin access to the site backend. For sites not developed by us we have found that it takes longer than may be expected to look at Joomla and VirtueMart component configuration, check for possible template/component/module/plugin conflicts and prepare a report based on our findings. Where an issue is detected, advice will be given on possible solutions. The cost of this is £50, payable in advance through PayPal. If you require this service please email us initially, as there may not be time within our schedule to take on more work. If we do have time available we will reply including a PayPal invoice and a request for site login details. We will normally look at your site within 48hrs of receiving payment, unless unforseen factors prevent this.
2. For those who require it, on-going support may be provided to correct issues where possible, and this is currently priced at £60 per hour, our minimum invoice charge being £50. Contact us by email if you require further information. Note that we will not undertake bespoke programming for these applications, and do not offer support by telephone or Skype.
a. Often a Joomla/VirtueMart website does not work because the server environment is not suitable (i.e. is maybe a cheap host or is badly/incorrectly set up). No amount of file editing/patching/hacking can fix this. The solution is to use a better hosting service.
b. Many VirtueMart users apply hacks to core files without understanding what they are doing, the possible consequencies of hacking, and not making a note of each and every hack made or even a backup. We cannot provide support for hacked sites.
c. Search Engine Friendly url modules/plugins cause many different issues on Joomla/VirtueMart sites which are often very time consuming to identify. Therefore we do not provide support for SEF.
d. You are strongly advised to backup your site at all possible opportunities, and certainly before making any changes.
